Your warband was pretty tough. I don't know if it is the bad die rolls or the 'big' special ability on all the stands. It was a hard game for me to win.

Ok, got a start on my High Elf army expansion on Sat at June Game Day. I was able to get the Bolt Thrower put together and put on a base. I also cleaned the crew, but I will paint them first before I put them on the base. Which means I will have to partially putty the base of the bolt thrower, paint it then add the crew, and then finish puttying up the base to paint the base all at the same time. I also decided to add the White Lions of Chrace elves (the old OOP versions) to the army as Warband. I need something to punch through opposing Blade and Spear, and the models are cool besides! These guys will have more golden armor and earthy colors (tan, brown, bt orange) so they should stand out from the shiny blue armor of the majority of my army. Next up, two stands of Magicians (one on order) and two Spear. Not sure where I am going after that since I dont think I will be able to finish the Chariot up in time for the tournament and still get the other stuff done. We'll see how it goes. The 48AP tournament is July 10!

Mark, the great thing about this game is that you can be real creative in assembling your armies. For example, my spider horde army (pictured elsewhere on Chip's blog) cost me about 8 bucks total--I bought various bags of plastic toys from the supermarket and dollar stores right after Halloween and just assembled them on bases I made from a cardboard box.

Great to hear from you Mark; glad you joined us and had a good time. The "What-Ifs" are sometimes the most fun of this game! Depending on what kind of army you might be interested in, I'm sure some of us could set you up with something. At least we could have a large portion of it for you cheap; you could fill in with stuff from ebay or off the shelf so it don't hurt the pocketbook all that much LOL. And indeed you could use plastic army men, or toys or whatever - if you check The Stronghold or the HotT Yahoogroup you will see that some people have used rocks, pasta, fuzzy toys, etc to make armies.

I have some extra minis of different "persuasions" just gimme some idea of what you might be interested in.
Hey Chip! Yes, you guessed my name correctly (Mark). Thanks for letting me abuse the Elves for the afternoon. Blake was a patient teacher and pointed out some good tactical choices even before I noticed they were there. He was especially gracious by recoiling his Hero completely off the map!! The battle with Grant's UNA was fun even though the Elves lost. But, I think the jury is still out on running the column through the bog. If Grant had only one Flyer, the column could have gotten around them and I would have a couple of shots at the General. Ha-Ha! What if, What if... Anyway, I'd like to make an army for the tournament. But, my jaw hit the floor when I saw some of the mini's prices! Yowsa! Can anybody give me an estimate on what a basic army might cost? I guess good old-fashioned plastic army men would work in a pinch.

Yes, I did whine when your *foot* soldiers ran 500 paces over to smack my flyers silly.

The swing of the game in my favor finally happened when I went and bought some real friggin' dice for once.

Funny guy, Mack. Seriously, though, I never have been successful trying to think of suitable Horde minis for High Elves (I had to consider it when I added the Sneakers in; I dont particularly LIKE the Dryad Lurker but it's what I came up with). Got any ideas for High Elf Hordes???
